WHY WE CELEBRATE DIWALI
Why we lit lamps (हम दिया क्यों जलाते हैं )
You might have know that diwali is a festival of lights🕯️. So what is the reason behind these lights ? Tell me who is the most dangerous creature in the world. You might be thinking of lion , tiger , bear right , but no because most dangerous creature in the world is mosquito. On research it has proven that mosquito may have killed almost half of the people who have ever lived. Mosquito kill atleast 725000 people every year. That's why it is proven that mosquito born diseases are deadly. Diwali comes in winter when humidity and temperature both are low so it is a suitable environment for insects. In a time when goodnight , odomos and mortein didn't exist , how our ancestors keep insects out of house. Turns out our ancestors have simple solutions of this and that is the clay lamp 🪔. Some culture use mixture of 5 oils to burn the lamp ( coconut oil, mahua oil, castor oil , neem and ghee ) this is called पंचादीपम तेल। This is a natural insect repellent with zero toxic fumes and zero side-effects. These lights (Diya 🪔) protects us from insects born diseases. And that is why we celebrate diwali.
Why we eat ghee
You know that we eat so much sweets and snacks in diwali but why we do so ? The answer is the secret ingredient ghee. But ghee consumption leads to over weight. Well it depends that what type of and how much ghee you are consuming. Pure ghee is known as food of GODS in ayurveda. Ghee doesn't have lactose. Lactose present in milk for which so many people have to endure with gas and bloating. Ghee acts as a catalyst and helps to break food and provides essential fatty acids for body. But we don't know these facts because we have been brain washed to market refined oils. Oil companies to market there oil have spread these myths that our traditional ghee is fattening and bad for health. But now a days people are becoming clever and well known with thae benefit of ghee. Ghee is now sold as clarified butter in the west. In earlier times people have there own cows , they were like a member of there family. Our India is still an agrarian country today and diwali is followed by the rabi sowing season. Our body needs more calories during winter. Body keeps our bodies warm and provide fuel in the cold. Ofcourse it is good but still is needs so moderated consumption. And is this why we celebrate diwali.
Simple meaning of our spiritual stories
Do we have any logic behind our spiritual stories. Today the whole world swears by this one word gratitude. All the good and satisfying things that with us , by appreciateing those and by making thankful for those things makes things even better. And this is a well known modern science proven fact. Also our mental and physical health will improve by these. And diwali gives you a amazing chance to express your gratitude. On Dhanteras we worship Dhanwantri ( the doctor of Gods ) who gave us ayurveda. Laxmi puja has been celebrate for the laxmi or the women of the house (who takes care of the health and wealth of the house )to give them their deserve respect. And bhaidooj is to meet our extended family. Afterall literal meaning of diwali is series of lights. There was never a concept of weekends before. People used to move far away from their home in search of work. And take leaves during festivals and come to their family. Diwali comes when winter comes and in winter sun sets early. And that's why lamps lit up to make those returning people see the paths. Almighty says that God talk to us with stories because stories are interesting ,easy to remember and apply.
Diwali vs Nature ?
We often think that our festivals and nature are fighting with eachother. Why do our rituals go against of environment but actually our understanding is completely inverted. Our rituals celebrates the changes happening in the nature and helps us ease into that transition. When we understand that diwali is actually connects us with the nature then questions like - should we use desi lamps (दिया) or use chinese fairy lights, how many crackers do we burst this year ,all these questions automatically got irrelevant. Because most importantly diwali celebrates the victory of good over evil, victory of light over darkness and knowledge over ignore. That is another why we celebrate diwali.
Know your culture through knowledge
If we stay ignorant about our own culture then how do we expect to earn respect from others. Today India is passing through economical crisis but still people are doing their best to survive. They are not begging but selling something and earning their living rightfully. Can we buy atleast one diya from them to support their living.
Can we defeat ignorance
All our problems arises from this darkness of ignorance. Ignorance towards environment , ignorance towards our country , ignorance towards eachother. And many of those people feel happy with this darkness. So let's light a small corner of our mind in this diwali. And make the world atleast 1% better than previous. So that is why we celebrate diwali.
